The story is about the life of a woman from the Joseon Dynasty, who is a dancer, musician and poet, Hwang Jin Yi, who seeks perfection in his artistic skills without giving up and facing the difficulties experienced by women on the basis of their low social ststus.
Hwang Jin Yi is an illegitimate son of a nobleman with Heon Keum, a famous gisaeng musician. The story centers on 4 men in Hwang Jin Yi's life and his hunt on the art of dancing. His first love with the son of a nobleman, Kim Eun Ho ends in tragedy. Her love affair with Kim Jung Han did not end happily. Byuk Kye Soo is the brother of the King who is obsessed with him and tries all the tricks to get it but it does not work. Eventually his loyal personal bodyguard, Yi Saeng, who never once left him, is always present when he needs help. The drama is a historical background of life from Hwang Jinyi, a famous Korean Gisaeng, during the Joseon empire. Having an art talent from her mother makes her skilled at dancing, playing musical instruments and poetry making her the best artist in her era.
Plot
A 10 year old girl named Hwang Jinyi is deposited at the temple by her mother and becomes a monk. While walking in the market to search for her mother, she sees a party featuring dances. Hwang Jinyi is interested in learning more dance art. One day he saw the announcement that a new gisaeng (female consoler) was required, he tried to register and was finally accepted for his extraordinary talent of dancing, his talent coming from his mother who turned out to be a gisaeng.
6 years later he meets his first love, a very clever noble named Kim Eun Ho. Their relationship is prohibited by Eun Ho's parents because of the difference in social status. This does not make Eun Ho give up so easily, a variety of efforts made to be with Jinyi. He also willingly release the title of nobility and run away with Jinyi to live together. However, it fails to do because his mother knows Eun Ho's intentions to escape. Finally Eun Ho fell ill and died.
Ever since Eun-ho died, Jinyi seems to have lost his life spirits and was often drunk on the anniversary of the young man's death. 4 years passed Jinyi has become a top-class gisaeng with the most expensive fees, and he changed his name to Myung Wol. Because of his arrogant nature, unlike the usual gisaeng, makes Byuk Kye Soo (the king's cousin) obsessed with him. However, Myung Wol does not reply to Byuk Kye Soo's heart, he falls in love with Kim Jung Han a royal minister because he is like Kim Eun Ho's first love.
The death of Baek Moo (the head of the entertainer group), made her feel guilty that her limbs were unable to move her to play music and dance. He also became stressed, to want to commit suicide. Kim Jung Han saves his life and is willing to live with him, becomes a commoner and leaves his noble title. For 3 years they lived together, until finally found by local police and Kim Jung Han was arrested for leaving his duty as minister. Jinyi seeks to free Kim Jung Han from prison, by dancing in front of the king to gain his sympathy. Kim Jung Han was released, and Jinyi returned to Gisaeng. Jinyipun broke with Kim Jung Han and became the best artist in the 16th century joseon era.
